The Meaning Behind "Zhiyun"
In Chinese, “Zhiyun” (知韵) combines two ideas: 知 (zhī) — to know, to understand — and 韵 (yùn) — rhythm, charm, and poetic grace.
We chose this name to reflect our deepest aspiration: to nurture dancers who are not only technically skilled, but also deeply knowledgeable in their art. Knowledge, to us, is not a finish line — it is a journey. Just as dance evolves with every step, we believe in a constant pursuit of understanding, refinement, and growth.
At Zhiyun Chinese Dance Academy, every class is more than movement — it’s a step towards becoming a more insightful, expressive, and culturally grounded artist.

Learning Through Experience
Performance and Competition Opportunities
Here at Zhiyun, we prioritize growth through real-life experiences acquired from performances and competitions. We aim to offer our students competition and public performance opportunities every year.
One such platform is our annual year-end recital, where students are provided the chance to showcase the accumulation of their efforts!

After spending 2 terms at Zhiyun under teacher Lynn’s guidance, I’ve realised that she's probably the most detailed out of all the instructors I’ve learned from in the past. The stretching & conditioning feels effective rather than just being a part of the warm up. The classes are also very inclusive, with people of different body types, age groups & gender orientation. What I appreciate most is that no one is expected to achieve a certain standard; everything can be adjusted to meet people where they are at.

Came across Zhiyun studio by chance & was enticed by the dance music post in IG. Not many studios in Singapore teach the classical or chinese dance fusion genre, hence i've decided to give it a shot. I felt at ease even though it was my first time amongst their regulars at the studio. Lynn lao shi was clear in explaining the moves & was astute in her observations, giving timely advice before muscle memory kicks in. Overall, I enjoyed the class!
